Australian Grand Prix 2022 Track Updates

Work is almost complete on the newly updated track for the 2022 Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park, Melbourne. I took a quick run around the track to see how the circuit looks ready for the race on April 10th.

Starter box and Grandstands on the main straight
The track has been completely resurfaced – shown here looking at the final turn (16)
Turn 6 has been opened up to make it faster
The chicane at turn 9 has been completely removed, replaced with one fast corner
Widened turn 13 with new Grandstand
One of the marshall’s boxes between turns 8 and 9
Huuuuge screens on turn 10
Watering the grass to make it nice and green for the TV viewers
Forklifts lifting in the safety barriers between turns 4 and 5
Winners podium sits right on the start/finish line
Tyres at the entrance to pit lane – these have seen a few Grands Prix
Sir Jack Brabham at the end of pit lane
Merchandise tents have been constructed in the middle of the circuit
I kept stopping to take photos, but not a bad lap time.

In case you’re not familiar with the circuit, here’s the F1 track diagram from the F1 site. I don’t own this, but I hope they don’t mind me using it.
