Great Barrier Reef Airport, Hamilton Island

I was very fortunate to take a trip to Hayman Island recently. To get there, we flew on Virgin Airlines from Sydney direct to Great Barrier Reef Airport on Hamilton Island. Approaching from the South and descending into downwind before turning for a Northern final, it’s best to be sitting on the right hand side of the aircraft as you get some great views of the runway.

It’s a fantastic airport, runway of around 1800m with water at either end. One that I’d love to land at sometime in the hopefully not too distant future.

I made a quick holiday video, which may not be of much interest to fellow aviation lovers out there apart from the fact the video is topped and tailed with a few shots of B737s arriving and departing from the airport.
