Today I took my daughter to Maitland for day 1 of the Hunter Valley Airshow. A blustery day, gusts between 30-40KTS at one stage and a strong crosswind across the runway 23 which was in use for the show. A few pilots opted to depart/land on rwy 26 which was more into wind, but still a challenging day for all involved.
Here are some video highlights of Paul Bennet, the aerobatic pilot based out of Maitland who put on a great display for the impressively large crowd. He was due to perform a knife edge pass whilst a motorcycle stunt rider jumped over the top of him, a stunt that a lot of the crowd were looking forward to, but the wind conditions prevented that from going ahead. The forecast weaker winds tomorrow means hopefully he can try it tomorrow however.
